Puertos Canarios holds a new Open Ports Day at Pasito Blanco
2. The news in detail
Puertos Canarios will hold a new Open Ports Day this Friday, 5 June, at the Port of Pasito Blanco, in the municipality of San Bartolome de Tirajana, an initiative designed to bring the region's port infrastructure closer to residents, visitors and families through a friendly, informative and participatory approach.
The activity, which will begin at 6:00 pm, will take place under the motto Get to know your Canary eco-port and will allow visitors to tour the facilities through guided visits, learn about technologies, equipment and innovative practices linked to caring for the environment, and enjoy the theatre piece Historias de Sal, a small-format show for all audiences. The event is supported by the Pasito Blanco Marina and the Town Council of San Bartolome de Tirajana.
With this day, Puertos Canarios continues to strengthen a line of work that combines outreach, culture and environmental awareness, inviting the public to see the port differently, as a space for meeting, learning and a shared future. The initiative is part of the Ecopuertos Canarios project and of the evolution of port infrastructure towards models that are more responsible towards the marine environment.
3. Voices and statements
The managing director of Puertos Canarios, Jose Gilberto Moreno, stressed that the initiative responds to the aim of opening ports to the public: we want those who come to Pasito Blanco to feel the port as a close, living and useful place, a space that also belongs to them. These days allow us to explain, with real examples and activities for all audiences, how we are moving towards ports that are more sustainable, more open and more committed to the community, he added.
4. Context and background
Puertos Canarios is a public business entity attached to the Canary Islands Government's Department of Public Works, Housing and Mobility, operating under the name Ecopuertos Autonomicos de Canarias. It manages the archipelago's network of regional ports and drives the Ecopuertos project, aimed at sustainability, safety and the continuous improvement of port infrastructure.
5. What it means for Fuerteventura
Although the day takes place in Gran Canaria, Puertos Canarios is also the body that manages key Fuerteventura ports such as Corralejo, Gran Tarajal and Morro Jable, so the eco-port model and sustainability policies showcased at Pasito Blanco have a direct bearing on the Majorero coastline.
