2. The news in detail
Puertos Canarios has unveiled the calendar of the 2026 Open Days, an initiative opening Canary Islands autonomous port infrastructures to the public in a coordinated way for the first time. The event spans 9 days between May and June, each hosted at a different port.
The project is part of the Ecopuertos roadmap, which places at its core values such as sustainability, memory, community, resilience and respect for the marine environment. It will be combined with the theatrical show 'Historias de Sal', a sensory journey through island maritime heritage and port traditions.
Visits include access to boats, port facilities, guided routes and — on some days — specific activities for school groups.
3. Voices and statements
"We want citizens to see first-hand the infrastructure used by our fishermen, sailors and the islands' maritime economy."
— Puertos Canarios
The presentation event was held at the Puerto de San Cristóbal in Las Palmas on Tuesday 19 May.

5. What it means for Fuerteventura
Although the 9 venues are concentrated in Gran Canaria, the initiative is part of the autonomous Puertos Canarios network managing ports across all the islands — therefore it is meaningful also for those living in Fuerteventura, Lanzarote or the other islands. For anyone holidaying in the Canaries over the coming months, it's a chance to discover the maritime culture of the archipelago.
